Silver to a Gold

Sure - just add the ash bucket kit. It's a hit and miss find on the Web or eBay; And in order to get it from Weber you'd have to call and fib about your silver or claim you had some other grill that had one, but that's something I personally wouldn't do.

How old is the silver? If it's newer, then yes - the ash ring/pan will snap right into place. As W Tyler eluded to, ordering the parts from Weber ain't as simple as it sounds.

Why is it so hard to get the parts from Weber?

I don't think getting the part from Weber is that difficult..... But they may not recommend putting the ash catcher on a OTS. WTyler is referring to trying to get them to send you one under warranty I believe. Anyway I've had good luck with ereplacements as a vendor.

how funny. I just converted 4 new golds to silvers. I prefer the simple ash pan and the streamline original look. weber has parts for sale that don't always show up on their website, you can find them out there somewhere (ebay, amazon, grillparts) and then call weber to order. ive never had problems ordering direct, they've always been real helpful.

on that note, I now have 4 gold ash catchers that Im never gonna use - I obviously have to keep the sweepers but I could send you the ash catcher and maybe you can pay me for the shipping or something. how many are you converting?

don't lift the lid...

I just thought about something. I just pick up a IQ 110 for the kettle. I cannot use an ash can with this unit. I do want to thank you Jak for the offer.

Jak I'd be happy to take any of those off your hands.

If you call up Weber, and don't have a Performer/OTG registered, and tell them you want to 'upgrade' your silver to a gold - they ain't gunna sell you the parts. They'll say that's modifying the grill the way it was built at the factory and won't sell you the parts.

This is a very important consideration. I changed over my 99 Performer to use the new style ash ring. Only two of the three slots would align. I managed to screw up and pop the rivets on it while trying to get it to fit. Ended up using a small hose clamp on one of the leg nubs to secure it. After all that the handle does not align totally with the markings on the ring. Dont misunderstand me, it all works. I didn't have a choice because the mounting bar on the old ring broke. If it is not a newer , model you might run into the same kind of issues I did.
