silver maple tree

Other than burning seasoned silver maple wood for bonfires and such,is it a quality wood to use for smoking? And what would i use it with?

I used wood from the tree that was in my backyard, I was told it was a Silver Maple. I was told it was a soft maple, usable bot not as good as a hard maple. I used it for chicken and it was OK. I used to use it to grill, it burned hot so it was good for sausage links, steak & burgers.
