well 730 and i'm starting my first smoke, 2 butts and 3 ribs...i put rub on all th meat, the butts i put on the lower rack thinking that the ribs will get done first and they need to be on top....god i hope i was right....loll...

i put a full box of cowboys charred wood cold and then i put 20 hot brickettes on top of that.....waiting now.... temp. is at 200 on the lower rack...oh i also put water in the bowl. is there anything else i should be doing? also i used cumin in the rub, after smelling it i'm not so sure i like it, will the taste be as stronge as the smell? Billy
 
i suggest you monitor the top grate as to not dry out your ribs. as far as cumin goes, a little goes a loooong way for me. i rarely use it unless i'm doing fajitas or tacos, etc.
 
ok why didn't i read ur comments earlier? loll..ya'll were right on all counts....to much cumin, and the top grate got to hot....smoke ans learn i guess...ty guys....i have 2 butts left now....hoping they turn out better....ty again
