Sharpening a Granton edge knife

I read somewhere that you should not sharpen a granton edge knife yourself, but rather have it professionally done. It this true or can I sharpen my knife myself? It seems kind of silly to have it professionally done when I can sharpen straight edge and serrated edge knifes without worry.

I sharpen my own also but if the opportunity arises I will have them done professionaly at least yearly. I have found it does help, that may have something to do with my abilities to sharpen knifes.

I use a Dexter Russell Diamond sharpen and then a ceramic stick and they stay very sharp just fine. If having them sharpened have it done by a Knife Maker not a Knife Sharpener there is a difference.
