Life is easier with one-touch!

Came into work today and found this gem sitting in the trash pile. Plucked it from the rubble. And looked it over. Its a 22.5 one touch gold dated DZ (2008)

The OT system isn't moving freely. Prolly why it was thrown away.

I have a OT system for a silver will that work with this grill?

Is this the H cleaning system? Stainless steel or aluminum steel? Clean and repair or replace?

What is the name of this color?

All the parts are there and the legs are taken off but inside the bowl. No biggie. I think I'm gonna mount it into my wood table anyway.

Whatcha think, not bad huh? Can't wait to see it all cleaned up with some food inside.

Thanks in advance for any and all help, knowledge, suggestions, or comments.

Wow.. Cant believe someone would toss that. Thats 2yrs younger than my DR. I would try some degreaser or Easy off first, that might free up the OT system. Hows the sweeper blades? decent or knarly?
Either way, nice rescue.

Tim

2 of the blades look ok. One of them is bent upward and pulled about 3/4 - 1" away from the bowl at the tip. I have degreasers and oven cleaners. I'll try that after blasting some old ash and larger gunk build-up off.

Kaz,

On the one touch system, Take a flathead scredriver and put it between the round bar and the washer above. Spin the handle and it will pop as it unlockes the washer against the rod. Then you can slide it out and try to bend the one blade back.

Note how you take the blades off. Makes it easier if you put them back on the same way.

And yes, it's the same kit for OTS and OTG, so you can use the extra one you have for a silver.

Great find!

Thats an awesome find! The one touch system of the ots will fit, just buy a new one I think they are 14 bucks. Make sure that you only use the easy off oven cleaner in the inside. Get some 0000 grade wool and clean up the outside, it takes all oxidation away without scratching the surface. You can use the same wool on the inside but after you have wiped off the oven cleaner and hosed it down. When using the wool make sure the grill surface is wet. Good luck and post pictures when your done.

Here is the 4 vent hole wire legged sjs I found in the same pile last week.

Anyone need parts beside the wood handle?

The legs and ash pan are in good shape. But the bowl and grates are pretty much toast. G model

Thanks for the screwdriver tip josh! I know its a different OT than my silvers have so it has me a little curious.

Thanks jeff. Can you say what color blue this is? Cobalt? What does weber call it?

Can u believe some dumb schmuck threw this away?!? I found it at the county landfill.

Here it is cleaned up with just some soap and water. The OT freed up with the soap and water too. So its turning good now.

The OT blades are rusted but what looks like rust in the bowl is actually just stuck in crud. It needs to soak to clean up a lot better inside.

It sure is a beauty. Thanks!

That sure is a beauty.. nice clean-up!
Yea it's weird what people toss out these days. I ran a 6yr Town-home project in Naperville IL. And we always had 5-6 roll-offs set up in different locations around the site. Monday morning was dumpster diving for my crew, as most of the Million dollar single family homes in that sub-division cleaned out there garages or backyards.

Well I am a true junker and love old stuff.

But this grill was no junk. I got a spatchcocked chicken on right now.

Josh was right on with the screwdriver.

Flip the bowl upside down so your looking down on the OT arm assembly. Stick your screw driver dead in the middle under the round arm between the two semi-circle tabs. And pry up while wiggling, twisting, turning, and cursing! And boo-ya

Its not easy. And if you didn't want to save the OT system. I'd cut it off.

Here is the inside cleaned up proper.

Here's my junk pile all put together and standing upright.

FYI,
I don;t think the OTS blades are the same as the OTG. It will fit, but i think the OTG's are SS and are fairly easy to clean up and bend back. I used a $10 grinder with a wire wheel in it from Harbor Freight.

Hey Kaz, if you still have the SJ parts, I am interested in the legs. Please drop me an email at heyjude141(at)comcast.net.
Thanks, AJ

Yeah your right AJ. The OTg is the stainless and the OTS is aluminum. I went ahead and put in a set of new silver blades that I had into it. I cleaned up the OTG blades a little bit. Didn't wire wheel them. Just a old wire grill brush, but I put those into a old black silver (EZ) that I also found at the landfill cleaned-up and sold for some beer money.

So those OTG blades are already gone.

Nothing wrong with the OTS blades. Just brush em off and try and keep them from rusting. Even if they do, they're not too expensive.
Nothing wrong with being a "Green Recycler", AKA "Junk Collector."
Something tells me you'll keep finding them.
Too many people think everyting is so easily disposable. Quite a shame really, all that money going to waste.Oh well, one mans junk is another mans treasure..Gotta love it!
