I agree with all of that and I can definitely relate. I was just mentioning especially with a darker wood because I have noticed that the SS tends to stand out a lot more with dark wood and is less noticeable with lighter wood but I agree though about factory original being the goal.
You're not wrong either way but I always strive for something better if I'm going to do it. Regardless of expense I think I'm going to powder coat pretty much everything on the next and probably final Genesis 1000 that I do. I have gotten to the point where I only want to have one absolutely perfect one as a keeper.

It's an evolving thing for me that started with just wanting to restore my own personal grill instead of buying a new one. You'll have more clarity as you go on I'm sure
For me it started several years ago as a way I could donate grills to people in need.

No, I wouldn't say that exactly. I just don't have the same view on charity given my own experience raising a family of three children and trying to maintain at least a middle class lifestyle in an extremely expensive part of the country to live in. That's probably the nicest way I can put it.

Black one is 1/4" that is what I shoot for. On my Sappy Walnut I cut my wood 1/16 big. After finishing the wood I lost that projected 1/16" that I planned plus just a hair so I ended up adding a piece of paper/1/32" with my black shims to make everything even and perfect. It's nice to have different sizes so you can space evenly and hit the end of the z-metal in the right spot.
