Rust flecks on new genesis II side table

i've had my new Genesis II for a few weeks. i noticed the other day there are several flecks of rust on the left-hand side table. i don't notice any on the cover of the side burner on the right.

is this a common problem, or should i contact Weber?

Hi Ken,
If you could post a couple pictures, that might help diagnose. I would have to say that the grade of stainless used by Weber on most shelves (probably 430) is not immune to rust. If you are the original owner, you might see where you stand on Weber's warranty, but if that is a Genesis II, it is several years old at least, so there might not be coverage.

I would try some white vinegar, and if that doesn't do it, use Bar Keeper's Friend avoiding steel wool for sure (which leaves behind regular steel particles that will for sure rust) and overly aggressive pads like Scotch Brite. Buff in the direction of the grain so you don't create a bunch of visible scratches.

Bar keepers friend and a scrub daddy. Works wonders! Rub with grain as Jon mentioned. It cleans it up real nice!
Don’t apply a ton of pressure, let the sponge and cleanser do its magic!

no. i know that's a no-no on stainless steel.

the grill is about a month old, and the only cleaning has been wiping the side table with a paper towel when i put the grill together.

i'm away from the grill for a couple of weeks so i can't post pictures.

the grill is about a month old. it's a Genesis II E-335. i will contact weber customer service. i suspect a bad piece of SS since the left side surface is rusting, while the right side suface (the lid of the side burner) is fine.
