I have to tell ya, I think I'm getting hooked on the royal oak briqs. I've now used close to 5 bags this year, They seam to burn very consitant, evenly, with pretty darn good burn times as well. IMO John

Really? You get good slow-cooking with them? What's the longest you've burned without adding fuel?

I like the RO for grilling, but low-n-slow I'm using Rancher and Kingsford. I get more consistent results there. I'm curious how you're doing with RO.

Thanks.

Just yesterday, i cooked CSR I used less than have a chimney (walmart) not weber there smaller,of unlit and 14 lit MM and cooked @ 260 lid for over 2.5 hrs. I cooked a butt last week 7.5 hrs on about 1.75 chimney unlit MM, with water in the pan @ 250. i still had charcoal left in both cases. I don't know it just seems to keep on burning. just my opinon. john

i have no problems with ro briq on long cooks either. ro lump and briq are what i use when not using the little rancher that i have left. as stated many times, ro makes the sams choice stuff and it works great when i can't find ro briq around here.

I was useing Sam's Choice all the time, with good results. Then I bought several bags of RO briq. on sale and have been using them with good results also. I also have a double bag (43.2 LBS)of Kingsford, I bought on the Memorial day sale. I guess I'll try them next after all the RO is gone. John

I tried RO briquettes for the first time about a month ago. I got them at the Menards grand opening.

My normal overnight burns on the magnum run a full 20# bag of rancher about 18 hours without touching it. It has been a while since I have used K but the 21# bag would go almost that long but I had to poke the ash at 12 hours or it will go out. So I put on 20# of RO, at 12 hours I checked it thinking everything was probably fine. Well the temp was down to 200 and about a half dozen coals left. I only bought a couple of bags to try out and if I found I liked them I was planning on buying more. I didn't go back for more.

For me RO briquettes are not in the running. When I run out of rancher I will probably switch to lump since I found a local supplier of Hump lump. I also found out Humphries also makes briquettes. I will have to give it a try when the rancher is gone.

I tried Kroger store brand briq. as was told that they were made by royal oak but they somewhat dissapointed me. They just did n't seem to fire as hot as the K. I may however give them another try as a brief rain fell but also used K while a downour came and with the K-stll made my best bbq pulled pork yet. The kroger store brand just seemes to ashe up and stall out. What ever happened to "Ember's"?
