Rotisserie on the WSM

When I ordered my rotisserie I just assumed it would fit the WSM also. Well, it doesn't exactly, but I had the smoker already fired up and ready so i decided to see it I could make it work. It will work, bit it doesn't fit real tight where the rotisserie ring fits on the barrel of the smoker so I used some high temp foil tape that I had and taped the gap. I then discovered the WSM lid won't fit either so off to get one from the OTG. That fit.

Once I had it pieced together, it worked like a champ. Does take longer to do 2 whole Smart chickens on the spit, about 4 hours at 275 but they came out fine. I marinaded one in Italian dressing and one not marinaded. Didn't like the marinaded but I may have done it too long. I did this in conjunction with a comp chicken practice so didn't give the whole chickens the prep attention they deserved. I will next time.

They were rubbed with Harry Soo chicken rub, sprayed with olive oil about half way through the cook and glazed with sauce about an hour before done. Hard part is not getting the dark meat overdone while cooking white meat to temp.

All in all, you can do rotisserie on WSM.

I just used my Cajun Bandit Rotisserie ring for the first time this weekend and had great success with a small rib roast. The Cajun Bandit set up is designed to work with either a22.5 WSM or a Weber Kettle. It came with the One Grill battery operated rotissere motor and was really impressed with the unit. Cooked a 4.5 lb roast @ 350 for 1.5 hours. I'll be using my rotisserie agian soon. It worked great.
