I haven't posted in a long time but I needed a way to let this out and maybe even create some more appreciate for Todd. Todd Snider passed too soon at the age of 59 this last weekend & was one of my favorite musicians. Of course there are lots of great musicians out there but if you haven't heard of him, here's my description; Imagine if Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Presley, RL Burnside and Robert Earl Kean all had the same nephew. His music was folk, folk rock, funk, blues and rock with strong guitar play, harmonica, and just about every song was a story.
Very few of his songs ever "made it big". His most well known/played song back in the heyday of FM radio morning shows was "Beer Run" which was played a ton on the Bob and Tom show. I never took the time to figure out who wrote or performed the song when I first heard it back in the late 80s or early 90s. Farm Aid was probably the biggest show he ever played. I found Todd about 4 years ago thanks to the Youtube algorithm. I loved Todd's music because I love a good story, love to tell stories myself and identified with a lot of Todd's stories. Not sure why so many great entertainers leave too soon.
If you're already a Todd Snider fan and have something to share please jump on this thread... honestly i never saw him live. I bought tickets, and went to go see him with my wife and two of our best friends. Todd couldn't perform that evening, but it made for a great story (go figure). Others may be upset and give up on him but I didn't. Todd was way more than an Alright Guy.
If you've never heard of Todd or his music, and are curious, listen to some of these and let me know what you think. His music lives on. RIP Todd.
