I got an email from Rec Tec about a redesigned Matador coming out although it's not a smoker. Also their 590 and 340 don't have a stack, they have back slots. Need to buy deflectors to use it in the rain.
I’ll add some more info later for you all. I’m pretty exhausted at this point from the SF letdown and all the hustle last night get it returned and this home and setup. I got it home and seasoned and that’s it so far. About all I can really say at this point is this sucker is heavy.
Sorry the SmokeFire didn't work out for you. It may be a first world problem, but it still sucks when one gets excited for the new grill and it's a dud.
Still, back in the saddle again. Hope this works out.

The Matador is actually a gas low kind of kettle without a lid.
Their 590 is really sharp and I would bet their vents are not as susceptible to rain as Weber’s although I haven’t seen either in person. I just wish it had the rear hopper which I think is a good idea (when done correctly) and kind of a Rec Tec trademark. I would still buy one.
