Thanks for the help and suggestions. I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. =)
To deal with the 8mm hex, I used an 8mm to 12mm conversion kit (
https://www.ebay.com/itm/325192885337). There are a lot of sellers of this, and you can find the design online if you want to 3d print it yourself. It's not a perfect fit but worked well enough for me. If you make it yourself, you'll want to make it a little "taller" and also have a notch to deal to go around the extra flange (don't know what to call it) on the hex. Also, the hole was a bit small, so I had to drill it out to make it fit.
I had trouble finding wheels that would work with the recessed 12mm hex, so I went with a 12mm to 17mm adaptor/extender (
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TTQYTZY/?tag=tvwb-20) on top of that along with some 1/8 scale wheels (
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DU78QEG/?tag=tvwb-20). It required me getting out my Dremel to cut down the bolts. If you don't want to cut down the bolts yourself, you could also get an additional smaller adaptor/extender kit (eg:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YX61T6T/?tag=tvwb-20) and use those bolts.
