quick disconnect diagram

i have a genesis gold c using natural gas. i had to remove the side burner since i wanted to clean some rust from the frame. i had difficulty pulling out the hose from the quick disconnect so i decided to unscrew it instead and the spring between the end of the hose and quick disconnect just popped out. that's the problem. the spring has a brass flat tip one one end. i don't know which end goes to what end. i have pictures if needed. thanks
