Question For Rotisserie Users

I have a Performer Deluxe and my wife got me the Weber rotisserie for it. I'm doing a rotisserie chicken for its maiden voyage but am having an issue with the ring sitting on the kettle. I see the knotches that the instruction booklet indicates should fit over the screw for the lid bail system but i don't seem to be able to get two of them to line up and the ring is not sitting flush. I had to lightly bang it down to seat enough where it was not rocking. There is a lot of smoke coming out from where the ring is sitting on the kettle and out from under the lid. Right now I have the motor bracket located in the rear at about the 11 o'clock position when you're the grill. Have any of you had similar difficulty? Am I doing something wrong?

My ring is not a tight fit, and there's plenty of smoke from the ring/kettle area, but my notches line up fine regardless of which direction I orient the motor bracket. My guess would be that you have one that's slightly out of tolerance. The good thing is that it's a Weber, and their customer service is top notch. If you still can't get it to fit correctly I'd suggest contacting them. Here are my pics.
