I have a simple question for those who regularly use a OTx grill.

How often do you clean the interior of your OT kettle bowl by some method other than simply opperating the ash sweep and emptying the fallen ash?

once every couple months i will clean it just with some dishwashing liquid, garden hose and a soft brush. seems to keep it clean enough. I do 3-4 cooks a week on it, so once in every ~30-40 cooks...

Gerd,

Never, unless you count the occasional times I take off the grate and use my grill brush to give the bowl a quick sweep. Otherwise, I just let the heat do its business. As long as the grate is clean I'm happy. Sorry if that isn't helpful, but it's true!

Cleaning the inside of the kettle is like scrubbing your cast iron pans. Though I will use a putty knife to scrape away some build up on the sides when the cooking grid won't fit any more.

Haven't had mine long enough to know, yet.

I got it about 2 months ago (for $25) and gave it a good cleaning inside and out. I bought a new cooking grate and I've made a charcoal basket. It gets used about once or twice a week. Haven't really noticed any accumulation but I'll clean her when I do.

I try to sweep the ashes every time, and I have a plastic scraper that I give a quick scrape to the sides while I wait for the charcoal to warm up.
