One of my past Q flippers had an old Q light that was too broken to fix and was sitting on my work bench for a while. I removed the light part, sanded and painted the metal bracket, then put a inexpensive magnetic light on it. Works better than the original but without the tilt switch. I cooked up some salmon and asparagus last night and these are the pics.

Very nice mod. How do you think that light will do with prolonged exposure to heat from the grill?
 
I am guessing as good as or better than the original. Best part is that it is way brighter with more coverage and can easily and cheaply be replaced by another. I have another that my wife uses in her closet that has a motion detector build in and stays on for 30 seconds or a minute (selectable) after motion is gone and they are under $10
 
Creative solution!

I have similar lights setup in my daughter's closet. For some reason the home builder decided to not put lights in all the bedroom closets, and I've been too lazy to do this myself.

Certain models run off batteries (AA or AAA) and others you can recharge. Never thought of using one as a grill light.
 
Thanks for this, Joe! It reminded me I needed to add a light to my Q for camping (I found one on eBay :) )

EDIT: This particular style of Q handle light is a Weber 6503 in case anyone is interested.
