Hello everyone:

Hope you all are enjoying the holidays. We had an 18 lb pork leg on the wsm for Xmas and it turned out wonderfully. I highly recommend this cut of meat for a crowd of people. It's a LOT of meat.

Anyway, I am interested in purchasing a propane burner for turkey frying, lighting charcoal, deep frying chicken wings, brewing beer, etc etc. I would like a powerful burner yet one that also has sensitive temperature control. Any recommendations from this group?

Thanks, Theresa

Get a burner that is at least 170,000 BTUs, there are a number of them on the market. They can run anywhere from $49.00 and up.
To do turkeys you want a tall narrow pot, they use much less oil than a short wide pot would. Go with a stainless steel pot also, much easier to clean.
I like the stands for turkeys but the baskets are great for wings and or items you would want to cook.

Thanks, Jim. If you wouldn't mind sharing what brand you have and whether or not it's easy to control the temp?

I have a couple of them, one is a Brinkman and I don't remember the name of the other. There is not difference between them. You won't see much unless you go real high end, not sure it is worth the money unless you are going to use it everyday.
Temp control is very easy on all the models I've seen.

I have a Morrone that I bought cheap at Lowe's. 170,000 BTUs, 30 qt. tall aluminum pot. It works very well.

Thank you everyone for your replies! I am carefully watching Amazon and other places for a good deal. Can't wait to try the propane burner as a charcoal lighting method!

Theresa,Take a look at www.sportsmansguide.com. Today I got one of their cataloges.

They pictured a 150,000BTU burner with a 26qt. stainless steel pan and turkey frying kit for $50.

If you go to their site the product # is AX3X-70018.

Good Luck

Norman - thanks for the info!

I ended up getting a stainless steel Eastman Outdoors burner from Amazon. It arrived last night, looking good, that thing is HOT. Can't wait to use it this weekend!

Have a bag of frozen french fries ready, or have your own cut fries. While the turkey is resting, I fry up a bunch of fries, while the oil is still hot. Or you could fry up a mess of chicken wings for Bufalo Wings.
