Problem with everything sticking on Q240 grates

I clean the grates after each use and I put olive oil on them before every cook however everything I cook sticks to the grates. Any suggestions to alleviate this problem?
 
olive oil is not a good oil far as i'm concerned. use a vegetable oil. I use pam. most say to oil the meat and not the grate. but I do the grate.
also you shouldn't try to turn anything till it self releases. then turn.
 
I use to have the same problem with my gas grill. Found out it was me not the grill. Like George said, vegetable oil, and don't fuss with the food.
 
Pam spray works fine. I just keep a bowl of veg oil (Canola what have you). I have an old clean towel and it is rolled and tied. Clean the grates and than wipe it down with the oil soaked towel. Also if food is sticking the the grill may not be hot enough and you may not be waiting long enough for release. Remember that electric is a whole different animal. It gets hot (plenty hot) but in a much different way.
 
pam works fine with me. but it does flair up and can make a mess if you aren't to carefull. so using oil and a towel might work better for you. but as mentioned, make sure the grates are cleaned and wiped down. and no fussing. food will release when ready.

Like George said the food will release when ready.
I did fish on my weber q 100 today and no sticking. Some areas did stick due to my error. Here's a quick Instsgram video

I had a Q320 and like George said I always used Pam spray. I always sprayed before lighting the burners for safety.
 
Olive oil has a low smoke point, use Pam it's usually composed of vegetable or canola oil. Never spray while burners are lit!!! After you cook your food brush down the grill grates while their still warm. I'm going to sound like a charcoal snob here but this is why charcoal taste better and easier to control. IMHO cast iron grates are overrated. Stainless charcoal grates clean so easily.
 
I always treat the grates like cast iron.I always spray with pam just before putting food on.....no sticking here.I did try using Webers instructions to begin with and always had sticking problems.No olive oil.

George is right on; don't use olive oil. Also helps to get the grates hot before adding the food and I too like the idea of oiling the meat and not trying to flip/move it until it wants to release. I use tongs and wiggle the pieces to see if they're ready.
 
I've had my Q 320 for about 2 weeks now. It's getting cold here in Canada so I've only got about 4 cooks on it, but I've gone with Canola oil for coating the grill and or the meat. I use one of those pump up spray bottles that work quite well, and I do clean the grills after cooking by dipping a weber style brush in water and then scrubbing. When all is said and done, I give the grill a lite spray of canola oil and let it cool off. When I go to use it again, I scrub it with the brush dry after a 10 minute warm up and then wipe with a paper towel. Depending on what I'm cooking (I'll spray canola on beef and pork steaks, but onto the grill with veg oil or perhaps use an oil soaked paper towel wad) and I have no problems with sticking.... OK, I do have some slight sticking with marinated Zucchini, but not enough to worry about.

Don't use water with the brush to clean it after cooking. In Australia we have proved that this is the main cause of the grill rusting. Just brush them with the wire brush and wipe or spray it with a little oil. Don't use olive oil. Canola or vegetable oil works well as does ricebran or grapeseed oil. Brush the grill before cooking and lightly oil the food not the grill when cooking apart from sausages. I always lightly oil the grill for sausages, when I put them on I give them a quick roll on the grill, I find that this stops them sticking,
