Pork butts sell by date

I bought a twin pack of pork butts last week when I bought my other meat for a contest at Sam's. THe pack has asell by date of 10/7/10, I put themin the freezer for a week. When I was getting my Arthur meat out of the fridge I inavertently got that pack out to an put them in the fridge. I went out to the fridge this morning and relised what I had done, they are thawed but have been kept plenty cold. I am not going to use them until Friday the 22nd do you think they will still be safe to use or should I freeze them again.I am not sure how the sell by date relates to the use date, can anyone help me here? They have probablyonly been thawed for 5 days, and they are in a cryovac package

Cook them , don't refreeze till cooked. Cryovac bags will often leak if refrozen. If possible cook now rather than later.

What option do I have if I do not have time to cook them now. I have already re-frozen them but that does not mean I will use them. I just did that because I knew i didnt have the timeto cook them

When you get them back out and thawed again, cut them open and check them out. I can't see where it would be bad unless you got freezer burn. Most things should be able to go past the sell by date if kept in the freezer. I have eaten a 2 year old steak before, still here and it was tasty.

Jason the sell by date on any food item is telling u that the freshness of the product is started to go downhill, as for it being gd it is still gd unless ur nose tells u other. What i would do Jason is lower my temp in the fridge to about34-36 degrees till ready to cook the butts.

Since the butts are already refrozen, there's not much you can do about them at this point. I would give them a smell test when you thaw them out again, and if they don't smell rank, I would use them.
