Hi,
The vwb for over a year now and have successfully smoked turkeys, ribs pork, butts and ribs. A few weeks ago I noticed the Injection Cooking of Pork Butts in the cooking topics section. I was getting ready to smoke a butt and decided to give it a try. I had an injector left over from long ago (before I learned here about brining). I'd never really noticed much of a difference with injection on turkeys (flavor or moisture wise), but thought it would be worth trying on a pork butt. I used the method as described (well, sort of, I'd say it was more of an amalgam of the basic smoking recipe, Mr Brown, and the injection method). Frankly, while the pulled pork came out moist and flavorful, I cant really say it was any better or worse than cooking without injection. Just like with turkeys, when I would inject the marinade, once you pull the needle out, it appears most of the liquid squirts back out (right in your face if you're not careful).
Anyway, just thought I'd spawn a conversation on the subject. I'm interested in what other folks have to say about it.
Happy Mothers day to all you mothers out there!
