Poder Thermometer Question

I'm brand new to this so bear with me. I'm going to buy a Poder. Won't the wire from the probe to the unit melt if I run it between the middle and top parts of the WSM (assuming you keep the probe in the meat while you are smoking)? Thanks

The cable is metal braid covered, and the probe itself is rated to 392°F, so it would be ruined long before it reached any temp that could affect the cable. You just need to wait until your cooker is stabilized below that temp before inserting it into the meat. If you're referring to the non-remote Polder, you may want to also consider the similar Taylor. I have both and consider the Taylor the superior product, at a much lower price.
