Im on the fence on buying a Platinum Performer to go along with my built in charcoal grill (it isn't really designed for indirect cooking) , but i cant get past the obtrusive hood placement when its in that "hood holder". It really seems to get in the way looking at the photos. I know i'd feel like i'm being hen pecked by the hood every time i grilled. Anyone else feel this way? More importantly, Any modifications to make it less obtrusive?

I picked up a performer a few months ago and have used it a lot since. To me, the lid really does not get in the way at all. It slides over to the side, I am standing in the front using tongs.
I don't see any problems with it, but I suppose you could put the lid hook they make and use it.

The gas light on the performer is well worth it

A simple solution is to get three bricks and place them on your patio/deck. Then take the lid off (if it's in your way for a given cook) and place it on the bricks.

I use this method for my performer lid, wsm lid, and craycort grates when i need them out of the way.

If you are left handed, it will be bothersome.

I'm a lefty, doesn't bother me at all... though there are times I wonder why they didn't just make it go back at maybe a 45* angle or something. Then again I'm 6'2 so that may be an issue for shorter people lol.

I'm right handed, 6'2" and it often bothers me. When it does, I just set it on the ground. I would like to see a better way of just hooking it to the side

I don't like the holder, and removed it. I used 3 1/4 X 20 pan head screws and nuts to fill the holes. I use a piece of cardboard on the ground, and just set it down when I open her up.

I'm thinking of putting the charcoal baskets so they aren't under the forward most hole, and using it as a convenient place to run my probes.

Same here except without the cardboard.

That doesn't seem to tilt the lid out of the way any further than the stocker?

That photo is deceiving, while not leaving a perfectly clear opening it does lean the lid back more than the stock one.
If some-one wants to post a pic of the Performer with the lid open, I'll see if I can find one of mine for comparison.

I find the lid holder a little bit of a nuisance and usually put the lid on the patio on a couple of bricks. But the other features of the performer far out weigh that problem IMHO.

Here's an example with it open, and before buying one I pictured myself standing in front of the grill itself, but in reality I stand where the table is and don't find the cover to be in the way at all.

I just got a Smokey Joe, and was wondering if I could use it on my performer top. Yep, I guess so!
You have the same performer I do. by the way, nice looking ribs.

Ok here's a few shots, not the best angle but should give you an idea.

Seeing that it's out of stock and the price has jumped, you could always just hang it by the handle after removing that lid bale.
