Hi folks,

After browsing the modification threads for a while I have decided that my WSM needs a set of wheels. I'm thinking of fabricating something out of electrcal conduit or modifying a trash can cart...any and all ideas welcome!

Jim's mod requires to you locate an 18 1/2 One Touch Platinum kettle to use as a base for the WSM, you'll want to add better vents or a BBQ Guru like he has to control air better then the one touch set up also.

Someone here did add casters recently but I can't find the post, he made a circle out of conduit to go between the bottom of the legs and the caster to help support the legs.

Thanks for the link Matt...that mod looks a little top heavy for me. I have something a little lower to the ground in mind. I have 2 designs sketched out...one is an open frame with aluminum diamond plate, the other is a stainless steel enclosed cabinet for storage. Stay tuned for further updates as I finalize the drawings.

Upon further investigation into materials...I will not be using diamond plate (mega bucks!) or stainless steel (still too expensive) sheet metal to fabricate the cart. Instead I will be using 1 inch square steel tubing (.05 wall) and .032 sheet steel covered by a couple coats of heat resistant paint. My goal is to fabricate 2 workable carts for under $100.00 (time and materials). One open...and one enclosed.

Please post some pictures when you have finished them...Another thought or possible idea for a cart is to strip down a gasser and use the cart as well as the side tables if possible.

Will do...I hope to have the open cart completed within the next month or so depending on how my summer schedule pans out...I can always save them for a rainy day...we have lots of them! LOL! A gasser might work...but I want the WSM on one open end for easy access and I need to be able to enclose the other end to store charcoal and "stuff". Thanks for the tip Robert. Happy Smoking!

Great mod Rusty!...I'm looking to add some storage and a work surface...thus the reason for an enclosed cart.

A cart would be great. But, I would probably buy the parts and get sidetracked and never finish the project.

I also have a Weber Performer. I just place the WSM next to the Performer and use it's work surface.

The Performer is next on my wish list...if I'm REAL good mayde Santa will put one under my tree this year! LOL! You know...the cart on the Performer would be perfect for the WSM!!! I wonder if you can buy the cart seperate...and if the WSM would mount on it without any major mods? Hmmmmmm!

No unfortunately, the regular Performer is based on a 22 1/2 inch kettle also.

I've got a line on an old Weber gasser still in pretty good shape from Craig's list. If the frame is wide enough I could be able to modify it. It has a side burner I can use to keep my sop and sauces warm.

The frame is not wide enough to mount a WSM in, and the posting states it is a NG grill so you may have to figure in conversion factor. You could use it for a cart to hold all the accessories you will undoubtedly acquire.

I'm putting the finishing touches on a "ride" for my WSM's using the SS Performer frame. The Genesis frames are only @ 18" wide, and the one you are waiting for is a prime candidate for the utility table. Drop me a line neighbor!
