Picnics not at all like Butt

Dark meat. Dense muscles. Seemingly less fat. This cut seems like the muscle was designed for real work. Upon pulling two picnics this am, I have a new appreciation for the differences between picnic and butt. Sometimes butt seems to become 'mushy'. Not these picnics. Perhaps having the bones and their associated joint will yield more flavor.

What has been your experience?

I find a Picnic can dry out faster if taken to high. I like Butts for pulling, Picnics for making BBQ ahead of time. I think the picnic has a little stronger flavor also. If I can't find butts, I have no problem doing picnics.
While I inject butts sometimes, I always inject picnics.

I prefer the bone-in butt and they are readily available around here. My few experiences with the picnic were that they tended to be a little drier. Less fat to render. I noticed less of the darker colored meat which seems to be more moist than the other.
