My suggestion is to pick the first one close to where you live. There are many other worries for your first one, and getting there with everything you need doesn't need to be one of your worries. Lots of good contests in your area. You'll see us at many of the ones mentioned already. If we are there, feel free to stop by and we'll help you all we can.

I'm new to smoking (I haven't even bought my WSM, yet). But, I'm interested in getting into competition. First, I'm going to take a KCBS judging class and I'm going to start with small backyard events with one or two meats.

My question is this, how do you find the backyard events?
