Question for Performer owners -

What does the flame look like when using the gas assist?

How do you stack your coals when lighting them?

Thanks.

You could stack them in a pyramid, but mostly I use the chimney starter and set it over the flame. If you are thinking about getting a performer...Just Do It!! it is an awesome grill and great investment.Just my opinion.

I fill a chimney and set it right over the flame on the charcoal grate. 10 minutes later turn the gas off. 10 minutes or so later the coal is ready.

Russel, I know where you are coming from man.I yearned for years and finally broke down about 3 months ago and bought a Lowes floor model for $160.
I cam honestly say now that I have one I'm ready to get rid of all my smokers and grills. This thing is as about as perfect as you can get.
I just pile about a dozen briqs over the burner ..turn it on for about 5 minutes and aafter another 5 minutes spread the cols out and cook.I don't understand folks useing a charcoal started....thats one thing I wanted to get away from.I think people waste a lot of charcoal,....unless you are smoking 12 briqs are enough. If soking I fill both the charcoal baskets an put themm over the burner to start them put a pan in the middle with the baskets on ech side.Add charcoal as needed.
Just go for it Russel .....I think you will be very satisfied.

Glen is 100% right on about the Performer. I've only cooked on my $40 Performer one time, and I feel pretty similar to how he does about not needing any other smoker or grill to cook on.

Perfect size, nice strong table, gas start, charcoal baskets for many heat options, etc., etc. Pretty much the King of steel charcoal grills.

I use the starter because I often cook with more than one grill. I usually fill my baskets, then fill the chimney and stack that on my baskets and then I can start two grills at one time with the gas assist. The performer is the one to get, it's my number one, my 26er is my number two, then I have my three and four, they are just two 22's built into a table, but nothing beats the performer,
