Performer Restoration

So I picked up my performer about a month ago and it has been hands down the best grill I've ever had. I love it. Except for one thing bothered me about it. The one touch cleaning system looked like crap! So today I took care of that.

Here's a couple before shots:

It was just too ugly to live with. So I ordered some new parts and when they arrived I started to disassemble. You'll see that I ran into an issue right away. The old hardware was completely rusted out. I put in some Super Penetrate to try and loosen up the threads. But it was too far gone and the screw head broke right off with very little effort. So I ended up having to cut both ends of the handle so that I could get the old blades off.

Here's a picture of the broken screw (it was so cold that the Super Penetrate was almost a gel!):

After Sandblasting the ring and the ash catcher they went into my make shift powder coating booth (Red for the ring, and black for the ash catcher):

Into the oven to bake:

Then re-installed with a new blade and handle kit:

I am extremely happy with the outcome. Now I love my performer even more!

It's actually red. The flash and my poorly lit deck make it look a little orange.

Nice looking - how did you get the old style ring to match up with new H style one touch system ?? Inquiring minds need to know, I had to search to get the old style one touch cleaning system for my ss performer - finally found one

Well, When I bought the replacement parts for the one touch cleaning system, I didn't realize that they were different on the newer performers. It was very easy to make it work however. I simply left out one part. The ring on the older performer is held on with a bracket that mounts to the one touch system. You can see that part in the third picture up above. The new one touch system comes with the following washer that goes on the underside where the handle mounts. I simply left that part off since the bracket that hold the ring on does the same thing. Fit just fine with out it.
