Performer Propane Tank.......

I picked up a Stainless Performer on Craigslist for a nice price, however I have no idea how to fill the propane tank that came with it. The way it's situated I can't directly connect the disposable tanks like the new Performers either. I've attached a few pictures - it has a quick connect type adapter, but the adapter doesn't fit the small/disposable propane tanks nor the larger tanks as with gas grills.

How the heck do I fill this thing?

You can't take it to a place that sells propane and have it filled?

Pretty sure they can do it with that attachment you got????

I'm sure I could, I just thought I read somewhere you can modify these so you don't have to keep running to the fill station. Also, there was something about the safety of these tanks...

By the look of your tank it has the OPD valve installed on it so it can be refilled by any propane dealer. I'd say you are good to go. It looks safe to me.

I have the same style tank on my performer and have had it filled. If it's OPD, then they will fill it. But you do need to have it certified every 10 years. Mine is stamped w/ '98, so it needs to be certified. Place I took it didn't look.

The safest way is definitely to take it to a filling station that fills by the gallon. What are they 1.5 gallons - 2 gallons tops? I do know that it needs to be certified every 12 years. The date is stamped on the collar ring on the outside left of the valve when looking into the valve. They should have the adapter at the filling station but I'd take the one u got just in case. If they won't fill it due to the date then ask them where u can have it serviced.

I'm pretty sure doitbest.com and the ace hardware stores carry these tanks new tho.

U-haul centers fill by the gallon. Good luck.
