Performer losing porcelon coating

My one yr. old performer started losing porcelon coating. I called weber cs and they sent me a new bottom. This past wend, I put the grill back together after cleaning some parts. My question is it usual to have por. come of these grills? Also what is the way to take care of the interior? If water spills over on hot coals could this cause por. cracking?

My present routine is to steam clean the hot grate, let unit cool, brush coals and dust into pot on bottom, then whipe the grill with a towel and dawn.

Welcome to the forum Perry,

Yes, adding water to a hot kettle will cause damage to the porcelain finish. Rather than using water to steam clean the grates, just use a grill brush while the grate is still hot. You can also use a wet warm sponge or rag to wipe out the grill once it's no longer hot. I'll brush out the bottom of the grill the occasionally, but I usually just rely on the aluminum sweepers keeping the ash manageable.
