Performer Charcoal Basket -- Does the coal stay dry?

Things get pretty humid up near me in the summer. Is it possible to leave charcoal in the basket without it getting damp?

I store the "bag" in the basket and it has always been fine. On the other hand, we grill quite a bit, (at least four times/week), so it never really stays in there that long. The mother load is in the garage.

I live on Long Island and my Performer has been kept outdoors, with a cover, year round with a bag of charcoal in the "char bin" and I have never had a problem. I keep my spare bags in the garage.

My bags are in the utility room, but most are sealed or "rolled' shut. The bin on the performer looks like it is open at top to the air.

I always have a bag of charcoal in the bin. I always snuff out the coal and reuse after a cook, so a bag lasts a good long time. Even with the humidity we have in the mid-Atlantic, I've never had an issue.

I store too much other stuff in the bin, so I keep my open bag of charcoal in a Kingsford Charcoal Kaddy. I have seen them at Ace and Home Depot. Lowes also has them.

It is open on top but there is no need to worry. I roll the bag shut just like you do and store it in the bin. Year-round, no issues. It is not like it is exposed to the elements because when you close the bin the worktable is covering it. There are members on this site from Florida to Alaska that own Performers and love them. Unless you plan on storing the same bag in there for years I do not think you will ever have an issue with damp coal.

I store all my wood chunks for smoking in the bin and use a charcoal kaddy for the coals and keep it under the cover of one my Genesis so no issues with any mositure. Unopened bags live in the garage.
