I am looking for a quality pepper grinder. I have one I purchased at a local department store that works--very slowly! Trying to grind out enough pepper for a rub is time consuming and I often give up and just finish up with already ground pepper. Please let me know if you have had any success with a given grinder and, also, where you bought it.

Thanks,

Butch

Hi Butch,

My favorite device for grinding up whole spices is a Krups coffee grinder. You can control the size of the particles by pulsing it, or you can run it continuously for a few seconds and make dust.

I got mine at Costco. I don't remember the price.

Butch, you might want to look at a pepper mill with a crank handle on top, as opposed to the twist type. The ones with the cranks are much faster. I bought mine at Service Merchandise a long time ago. I've measured the output at around a teaspoon per 100 cranks. Still some manual labor, but not too bad.
