I Q'd two 8lb Mr. Browns this weekend on the WSM and used pecan wood for the first time. I am hooked. This is absolutely the best smoke that I have tasted.

I cut it with two small hickory chunks, but the majority was pecan.

Has anyone else used pecan and what were your experiences?

imo, its the best all around wood you can use for smoking. That said, I really can't taste a discernable difference in most smokewoods unless too much is used. Some exceptions such as mesquite which I find very strong. - however, it is a tradtional smokewood for Texas brisket. Cherry also seems to impart a beautiful mahogonay color to chicken.

Every year I buy a load of pecan from a wood guy that supplies restaurants locally.

To me, it is my favorite wood as it is so versatile. I like peach ,apple, and citrus too, but use pecan most of the time.

Thanks for the feedback.

I q'd a brisket a couple of weeks ago using oak. I thought it tasted great. The family thought it was way too strong.

I have been mixing woods lately. I've mixed apple and cheery with a little hickory. This gave me pretty good results, but nothing lke the pecan. I think I'm hooked.
