Parts Needed for WSM Door

Friends:

In the never-ending effort to provide a better seal for my 2010 WSM (18.5") door, I really screwed up (twice!). Yeah, I know, there's a dispute about whether sealing the door makes a difference, but I thought I'd try it to see if there was improvement. So, I added a rope gasket held in place by high-temp (food handling OK) silicone. The seal held in place nicely, but as I was trying to adjust the latch to get it to close properly, I succeeded in breaking the handle. OK, I thought, I'm handy, I'll work on a fix for the handle. So I set aside the various latch parts and set about trying to fix the handle. When I went back to the latch parts, nowhere to be found was the wavy washer. Gone. Vanished. I could not find it anywhere.

Weber will only sell me the entire door assembly.

So, I need a handle and wavy washer. If anyone has these parts and would be willing to part with them, please send me a private message.

Thanks so much for your help!

There is a company that sells on ebay that i have purchased weber parts from. Good people. It is the
Weber and Ducane Grill Superstore. I don't know if they have a website or whether you might find the parts on ebay.

If you can't find the parts, don't buy the door from Weber. Buy the Cajun Bandit stainless door. Much better fit.

i don't know if the door/handle from a 22.5" would do you any good but if you think it will, then it's yours. just pay for shipping.
PM me if you would be interested.

What is this "wavy washer"? Is it the same as a lock washer or... something else. You could check at ACE, and a cabinet knob should work for a new handle, It should be a 1/4- 20 SAE thread or close..

Tim: It's sort of a lock washer. Here's a link to a page with several different versions of wavy washers: http://www.springmasters.com/spring-washers.html

As you'll see, it's a thin washer that is wavy (as implied by the name). When a latch is tightened, it creates tension and holds the latch in place. A regular lock washer is too thick and would require too much force to compress it. The wavy washer that came with the WSM is pretty thin and easily compressed, but it provides just enough tension to keep the latch and handle from moving.

I hadn't thought of checking my local True Value or Ace. Home Depot and Lowes didn't have it...but maybe a smaller store would. And, I also hadn't thought of just creating a handle out of something else. Another good idea!

I thought of that, but just my luck -- the Cajun Bandit door requires that the handle and latch assembly be moved from the old door to the Cajun Bandit door. So, with a broken handle and missing wavy washer, I'm sort of screwed. The worst part is that this is a self-inflicted wound -- it's my fault the handle broke and I lost the freakin' washer! I hate it when my screw-ups cause problems. Grrrr....
