Painting the whole ash can and upper ring assembly?

So I’m in the process of tearing down and cleaning/ cataloguing the 2001 SSP we just bought, and it occurred to me that I could get the super high temp paint and pain the entire ash can assembly and upper ring…. Has anyone done this? how did it work out?

I've only done the ash pan and that was on my 06 OTG. Prolly painted it 2010.
Used rustoleum HH grill paint flat black. It still looks good.

Didn’t do the ring, I like the contrast.

I did mine black on my performer Deluxe. I use Krylon High heatmax.

Now I’m going to search the threads to find a regulator solution and where I can get a reasonably priced Manchester tank…

I got the Manchester 5 lb tank from Tractor Supply tonight, so I’m hoping the modern Performer tube, ignitor kit and regulator will work…
The second picture is (of course) the original tank and regulator, and the third is the more modern regulator/ ignitor setup which’s also came with the grill.

Steve, was it not a performer deluxe to begin with? Just missing the tank?

I got it now, the old tank was a quick connect.

So I’m ordering a new “hose and regulator kit” 74237,
an adapter hose (6501) to accommodate the 5 lb tank,

And I’m having a hard time figuring out the difference between the 2 choices for a “burner and ignitor assembly” other than that one is for 2004 and older, and the second choice is for 2005-2012?..
One has a black button and shorter ignition wires…
The one I pulled off the grill we bought appears to be the 2005-12, as it had the longer wires and red button.

Do you all have any thoughts on this? Am I going on the right direction, at least? Lol.

Those parts may be interchangeable, but I would order the one that says it's for your grill to play it safe.

that’s pretty much what I thought, though everything hooked up to it is for later models.
My little Frankenstein grill….
I guess we’ll roll the dice. I suspect there won’t be any difference.
