OTG Ash Catcher Mod

A simple mod that Shaun R helped me out with. I started off with a black ash catcher. Just scraped off the paint with Jasco paint remover. Now I have the classic aluminum look. No idea why Weber started painting them black anyway.

Just wear 5 pairs of gloves! I wore 3 pairs of hospital gloves and the gel seeped through! What a burn. I had to throw on my golfing gloves after that.
 
I kinda like the new pans in blk. Nice contrast to the sweeper,plus most have a stain from indirect cooks,and the blk. hides it. On another note: Chris, make stefans pic of his simple but effective mod on his perfect blue OTG. front and center on the homepage. Know it's been discussed many times,but we should all "mark our webers"
 
I agree, marking the ash catcher was the first mod I read here on this site a few years back. Easy and brilliant, this is a must for any OTG owner. I have a OTS as well, I found some permanent gold marker and put a few marks on the bottom of my black bowl to help me out for vent openings.
 
Oh Luis,

I would have traded you one of my many chrome ones for the black one (I'd have used it with a black grill). I could have saved you a little bit of work and a few bucks.

Funny.
I did the opposite. Painted my 06 black OTG ash pan with Rust-oleum HH blk grill paint (painted the plastic handles blk also)

After more thought and looking at it for the last few hrs think I also like the contrast and will leave it black.

@ Luis - yes the marks are 0%, 50% & 100%, also after further inspection yes my ash handle appears to be chromed.
 
Hey i got a question for all you OTG owners - Should the vent on the lid have rubber or plastic piece that slides onto the tab that sticks up?

Luis - I noticed your Simpson grill has this.
 
Not sure what you mean?? I'll go take a look. But I'm sure that the vent does not have plastic nor rubber on it. I may be wrong though.

Edit: Just checked, and no plastic or rubber on the vent tab. I think Mike is right, only performers and the bigger sized one has that.
 
Sorry my bad. Thought yours had blue on the tab but it's just on the lid handle and your two side handles.

Well they should come with something on that tab!!!
