OT: FoodSaver

Wondering if folks would recommend buying one of these, or whether you've found them to be cheap products/waste of money.

I've read mixed reviews.

Thanks, and happy Fourth!

I've owned a Foodsaver for 4 years now and can swear by it. I use it for buying in bulk and freezing and for pre-cooking for events and freezing and what I can tell you is that the quality of the food that's been thawed is very close to what it was before it was frozen. I just took a brisket and 7 lbs. of pulled pork out that I had smoked a month ago and except for the bark not being crisp, the texture and flavor of the meats are near perfect. I have never had a problem with my Foodsaver but I have heard of others (on another board) who have.

I swear by mine too. The bags seem "at least to me" way too expensive, but I use mine for bulk items. I use mine mainly for competition meats that I prep at home.

I bought one on a fleabay daily deal a few months ago and have used it quite a bit. I use it to freeze stuff I will not eat for over a few weeks in advance. If I am going to freeze something just for a week or so I use regular freezer bags. I also use the foodsaver to store coffee and cheese.

I buy the Weston brand bags in bulk from amazon. They are cheaper than the foodsaver bags.

I bought one a few months ago and I'm really happy with it. I never used to freeze beef, but I've found that the flavor is the same with vacuum sealed products. It's also great for freezing left over ribs, cheese and coffee as mentioned. Since I got it started freezing allot more stuff and especially love the marinating container that came with mine. Does a good job of getting flavor into meat only marinated for 20 minutes.
