I purchased the Spirit SX-315 a few months ago. The two cast iron grills are flat on one side and more pointed on the other. Which side do you prefer to face up, the narrow or wide side?

Older grates were intended to be flat side up.
Newer grates are reversible.
Look at the corner. My grates have square tabs for the grates in each corner on the bottom side.
Newer grates that are reversible have tabs on both sides.
All that said, I like cooking on them flat side up.
