Orange juice as spray or in mop?

A friend of mine mentioned orange juice as a spray or in a mop for brisket. He grew up in Kansas (as did I) though I have not seen recipes with OJ for a spray or mop for brisket.

Have you? If not, any ideas for subbing in OJ in place of, say apple juice?

IMO mopping or spraying a brisket is a waste of time, and just adds to the cook time of said brisket. Also orange is something I don't really want to taste on beef. JMO

Save the OJ for your vodka

JMO But really, give it a try. Spray with oj, aj, whatever, let yourself be the judge...to me flipping/basting etc. dosent make a difference in the end product. If it were me, I'd let that sucker sit in the smoker until its time to check for tender, opening the smoker is a sin you know

I'm with the others. I prefer to leave the smoker closed while cooking and haven't found much benefit to basting or spritzing.

I do like to inject and/or finish with a glaze on some BBQ items.
