older performer upgrades

I found a 1997 performer on CL, looks like it was hardley ever used. My question is are there any up grades that I should do. One of my concerns is where the therm is located. I already found out if you put over a bag of coals in the basket, it will fall out.

I have a 2000 SS Performer. Hmmmm. I guess I have never put that much charcoal in my charcoal bin. I added a grommet to use a thermo probe without crimping the wire with the lid.

I just put the bag in the charcoal bid. I don't dump the charcoal into it. When I load the kettle with charcoal, I just grag the whole bag, use it and put it back. It does not fall off.
