Ok..I recently bought a 98 Red S/S performer. I posted a thread a few months ago of the rebuild. Anway, the 5lb tank was 3/4 full when I bought it. I finally ran out of propane. Tried to refill but...it is not the OPD, so...I ordered a new tank. It arrived today..I opened it up and noticed it was a little bit different. It has the quick connect. Scratching my head I pull out my old tank it does not. The regulator is not a quick connect, but one that can attach to a regular 20 lb tank. Here are a few pics of the old tank and regulator. (I broke my camera 2 months ago and will buy a new one tomorrow) ANyways, I called Weber and they said, no..you dont need a new regulator hose, all we ever sold were quick connects. But..thats not what I have. Am I missing something????

I doubt the guy switched 5lb tanks and regulator/hose. I looked at the weber parts...sure enough its all quick connect??

my 1991 had the left handed thread pol fitting. i had to replace my regulator for $45 that had a bad leak and was told the quick connect is all the have now, but yes the older touch and go had the old pol style.
i'd return the tank to weber and get the adapter.i got mine at ace but it was $20. i have seen some on here that paid less

Tim, thanks for the response. no one will fill my tank cause its not the new OPD. Looks like I will need the newer style hose. I bought enough stuff from Weber. I sent the customer service rep pics to show what I had. He insisted they NEVER had anything but a quick connect. Weber always waives my shipping, Im hoping they will cut me a deal on a new hose..we shall see.

Good news, Weber emailed me and said they are going to send me a new quick connect regulator/hose at no cost..My '98 performer is now brand new...pretty much everything has been replaced.

wow you got a great deal. they charged me out the wazoo for mine. i'd do it again tho. my performer is my go to grill now. my 26 just sits there most of the time unless i have a bunch of indirect to do

Im sure it will be another 2 weeks till it arrives but at least there will be nothing else to replace. I ended up replacing thermometer, end caps, lid rollers, both grates, ash sweeper, igniter, S/S counter,5lb propane tank, regulator hose. Oh yeah and bought a new cover from Weber too.

So Gary, how much would you say you're into that "new" Performer? I've not finished the restoration on my own due to lack of funds at the moment, but am into it for about $140 currently and forsee another $100 coming out of my pocket when the time is right.

I wouldn't trade this SS Performer for anything even though I have yet to use it.

Hey Mike..well I bought it for $40 than began the repairs. The cover was $50 (of course not essential but...it will keep elements off and prolong life) and the tank was $50. Those were the big ones. W/ those 2..I would say $225 or so?? give or take. But. I just love this grill. It will last MANY more years. When Im done w/ a cook, after the coals are cold. They are all cleaned up, pan is emptied out, I have S/S wipes in my charcoal bin (w/ other supplies) it gets wiped down, cover put on. That way for my next cook she is spotless and ready to go. But Id say for $250 it is the ultimate grill and a super price.

I like to buy 'em cheap and get them in working order. But I don't really restore them. Once the price approaches 100 bucks for the SS Performer I start to feel that it's too expensive. I like to replace the cooking grate and the blades if necessary. But I like to keep it cheap.

If (when) I buy another I will keep it cheap. But..I have wanted one for a long time..and I wanted it in perfect condition, looking like it came off the showroom floor. Although its not "that" perfect..its close. The new performers are $300, but I think the S/S are nicer..so I basically have a "new" old weber for $250. My Stumps smoker I treat the same way that I bought new. Im the guy that youd want to buy a used car/truck from..as I keep my stuff in A1 condition...but yet...I will leave clothes on the floor or dishes in the sink...Im weird like that
