Just took a road trip to Kansas City to pick up this old girl, she's in really good shape for her age, no dents or dings and no rust that won't just wipe of with steel wool, more likely smoke stains. I know she is a pre '79 but could anyone help me narrow down the date range. She has aged to a silver/gray and even has original grate, much heavier than the new ones. When did they start and stop putting Bar-B-Q Kettle on the vent, this one doesn't have that, just says Weber. I've seen a '73 and a '79 with the Bar-B-Q Kettle Stamp, doe's that make this a pre 73? One coat of oven cleaner and the bowl looks brand new, flash makes a ring in the bowl, I'll have to get a better pic in sunlight

Kendall, based on the lid vent, I am guessing that your kettle was manufactured in the late '70s. Lid vents for kettles manufactured earlier in the decade had smaller holes, a narrower tab for adjusting the vent, and did not have the large lower case "weber" lettering in the center - take a look at my old one, and you'll see the difference.

Well, I saw a '79 "A" That said Bar-B-Q Kettle on it, that's what made me wonder where the one like mine that just said Weber fit in
 
Just got an email back from Weber Customer Service, they said they thought it was late 60's to early 70's. I have found that the information on this forum is usually more accurate than that of WCS when it comes to old stuff, they don't seem to have any historians there. I tend to agree with you guys that it is likely a '77 or '78, just before the date codes came out. I still want to know the date range for the Bar-B-Q Kettle stamp on the vents
 
Based on the plastic wheels, the embossed Weber logo, I would also narrow it as being 1977 or 1978. I believe 1976 had the lower case weber logo on the vent but it was outlined, not embossed. I thought this "outlined" weber logo continued into '78 but It appears not. '75 Should be still Bar-B-QKettle.

Thank you Mr. Hill, someday we need to assemble a definitive list that timelines features and we will have to do it ourselves because the kids at Customer Service don't have a clue. They are very helpful when it comes to service but when it comes to history they have nothing to look at.
