NY Forum Newbie

Not really a newbie in the truest sense as I’ve been lurking around the forum for the past 18 months or so. Definitely not new to the Weber game, either. I’ve been wrenching on them for at least the past 5 years and typically keep about 20 or so gassers on hand at any given time. I focus on the open frame side control models for my restorations and flips but also have a steady diet of customer front control repairs and refurbs to keep me busy as well. At the moment, I’ve got everything from early wood slat Redheads, assorted Platinums, a whole herd of Genny B/C units, and even a Gold D6 among my inventory. I’m in the Lake George / Saratoga region of Upstate NY and am amazed at how quickly fully restored grills sell at premium prices. Unfortunately, folks seem to think there’s gold in their grease trays on junkers, too as I’m trying to find inventory. Regardless, it’s turned into a nice little hobby for me and I’ve developed a pretty decent local following on social media along the way. I’m not sure this adventure is even profitable and probably don’t really want to know but that was never the point anyway. I just simply enjoy doing it. Anyways, I figure it’s about time to get off the sidelines and contribute where I can even if I wind up doing more learning than educating. Happy grilling!

You have some nice stuff, and I see you like to finish the job with a brand new Weber badge. That's a nice touch, but have you ever considered refinishing the old ones?

I break my projects into 2 categories...restorations and refurbishments. Restos get a new logo. Refurbs get the badge refurbed. I’d be forever grateful for a link to the push-on retainer clips, though (particularly a McMaster Carr link as I do a lot with them). I never seems to have enough extra clips for my satisfaction.

I think a few guys glue the badges back on with RTV. I buy those little nuts at Ace hardware so I make sure I get the right size. I wouldn't mind knowing where to order them from either.
