Nutribullet

I just picked one of these smoothie machines the other day from Costco.
I’ve never had one so this is a first for me.
This is actually pretty cool and it cleans up easily.

The reason I bought this was to hopefully lose some weight by drinking some veggies, fruit and yogurt.
I was thinking it would be a healthy sandwich substitute too.
I still need to figure some good recipes.

I’m experimenting with baby spinach, berries, almond juice and yogurt.
I also tried adding a big chopped up fat carrot to one drink.
While that may have been healthy it sure didn’t taste good and I like carrots.
Too much carrot?
I dunno.

Do any of you have any experience with this?
Maybe know a good simple recipe or two?
Thanks.

We have a ninja, that's more or less the same as the nutribullet.

We keep frozen fruit on hand. Pineapple, strawberry, mango, peach already cut up. We get the bags from Raleys on sale. It is a little pricy but much cheaper than a jamba juice retail.

The go-to blend for us is apple juice ( I should get reduced sugar AJ ), Greek yogurt, spinach leaves then some combo of the fruit chunks. Depending on the amount of fruit, and how hot it is, a couple of ice cubes can help with the blend.

We also bulk grind spices and grind dried vegetables to make powders in our Nutribullet. A TBSP or two of mixed vegetable powder in biscuits or spinach powder in spaghetti is great. I use it a lot to increase my wife's nutritional intake as she battles cancer.

One week review.
It has been near a week since I got the smoothie maker.
I now keep a supply of items to make smoothies with.
The drinks I make are now finally starting to taste better.
I use quite a bit of fiber topped off with some fruits, yogurt and almond juice.
I guess most anything will taste better topped with fruit.

One thing that this smoothie maker has done for me is to make it easier for me to skip meals.
Meaning just eat one simple meal a day (plus the 20 once smoothie).
I don’t (read can’t) do that every day but I have done it 3 days this week so that’s a start.
To be honest I don’t even know how many calories are in a 20 once sweet smoothie yet but it’s gotta be better than what I was doing before.

Andy, good going!!

I have a NB and also a hard cover cookbook from them.

lookin at the table of contents, I found a section for DH. "Foods For Sleep"

That's great Andy! I use a Vitamix blender for my Vegetable, Protein, Super food Smoothies. I haven't been having them as much lately but I always feel fantastic when I do. Maybe I should start working them in more again. I just need to plan ahead. This is what my old fridge used to look like at the beginning of the week.Screenshot_20250103_105217_Photos.jpg

Keep up the great work Andy!

Some of my favorite superfood seeds to put in to smoothies:
Hemp seed
Chia seed
Buckwheat
These can easily be added in with many health benefits.
I like to read and research superfoods and what they do. I have several more that I add into my smoothies but these are the main seeds that are easy to keep on hand.
Lemongrass and turmeric root are great to add also. Adding Black Pepper to your smoothie has a positive effect on nutrient bioavailability as well. When you add black pepper to your meal, you increase the amount of nutrients absorbed into your bloodstream. Black pepper helps to stimulate hydrochloric acid in your stomach so you can better digest and absorb the foods you eat. That's just one small thing but those are the cool things I like learning through research.

Josh, THANK YOU!!!!

Will be adding black pepper to more things now. A few months ago I took a salt shaker and added some black pepper to it. Now I will add MORE BLACK PEPPER.

You're very welcome Joan! Always happy to help with anything whenever I can.
I hope I didn't write too much. Not trying to take over the thread. Just something I get excited about.

Josh, no, you didn't write too much (that's my job :giggle:)

I just added so much black pepper to my salt and pepper shaker that I used up all my pepper seeds. :giggle:
I also have a Vita Mix, many, many years old.

Andy -- you might not have needed the new appliance. A standard mason jar fits perfectly on a standard Oster/Waring/etc. blender. That's what I use for my meal replacement smoothies. Personally, I go low carb.

Water, ice cubes, raw egg, low carb vanilla yogurt, Isopure vanilla low carb protein powder (sold at Costco), some half n half, a scoop of Nutrim oat bran powder (for the beta glucans), splash of sugar free vanilla syrup.

Frosty and thick vanilla milk shake with a lot of protein and fat. If I have that late morning, I often don't eat again until dinner. No idea how many calories and don't care.

If I'm not hungry, then I eat less and less often. Down 25 pounds doing this.

Oatmeal smoothie.

Instructions

  • Place the oats in the bottom of a blender and pulse a few times until finely ground.
  • Add the banana, milk, peanut butter, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Blend until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the blender as needed.
  • Taste and add additional sweetener if you’d like a sweeter smoothie. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • This smoothie tastes best the day it is made, but can be refrigerated for up to 1 day.
  • For fast prep, pre-portion the oats, banana, and spices in a ziptop bag and freeze until needed. Add with the remaining ingredients to a blender and enjoy!

Bwahahaha .
Now that’s funny.

Thank you for the recipe people.
I will try those.

Josh I keep a container of fresh coarse ground pepper.
Do I just add a teaspoon to the mix?
What would you recommend?

Thanks again.
