Howdy,

I was lucky enough to pass an apple orchard that was being trimmed this last weekend. I was able to scavange some nice 2 inch thick limbs as well as a lot of small 1/2" wide clippings.

My question is regarding how and when can I use this wood. Do I need to let it all "season" for at least 6 months or can I get away with using some of the small branches right away.

I have been dreaming of using apple wood since I got the WSM and I would love to use some this weekend. But, I don't want to ruin a good meal by not preparing the wood correctly.

All input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Troy

Welcome!

I use fresh cut branches all the time. It may be better once aged, but I have had no bad effects from the fresh cut stuff.
