Newbie Full of Genesis Questions!!

Hello, and congrats on a great forum! Ive been a Genesis Gold C (2004 model) owner for 12 years, and now comes time to refurb. I also had a CharGriller conk out, and have chosen to replace with a used 2003 Silver B. So, I now have many questions, most of which couldn't be answered by the folks at Weber.

My 2004 Gold C is a NG, and have found a Silver C (in LP, manufacture date unknown) locally. If in good shape, Id like to purchase the Silver C for replacement parts. Are the frames between the Gold and Silver interchangeable? What about the other parts--I assume the manifold isn't, but would the side burners interchange without modification? Any other parts/input/opinions?

On my "new" 2003 Silver B (LP), I've completely disassembled to clean/repaint. On the hood, I've also disassembled to repaint sides and clean. Ive found the sides of the hood are attached to the main enameled part by "speed nuts", (cheap sheet metal nuts). Ive checked at a few local hardware stores, and cannot find replacements. Any ideas where to find, and what size to ask for?

Ive gone through a couple of manifolds on the Gold C- does anyone know if manifolds can be tuned up or adjusted?

Thanks!!

Roy, welcome to the forum.
A good source for part diagrams and part #s is Ereplacmentparts, com. I looked up the manifolds for the silver c and gold c and they are different part #s. Seeing you have a Gold C take a look at the frame picture of the Silver C and see if it looks the same as your gold.

When I converted my 1000LX to a 2000LX I just unscrewed the speed nuts and had no problems getting them off and reusing them after I painted the sides.

That's odd about your manifold problems I still have the original on my 1999 Genesis 2000 and it's working great, can't help you there.

Welcome to the forum Roy. It is a great to learn and to share. I can't help with your issues but Rich is a great resource for help. His work is awesome. Please post pics of your rehabs. That will also help in responding to questions. Good luck.

Hey there - I have been working on a similar combination myself, and the parts between the Gold and Silver are interchangeable, except for the flow regulators on the manifolds (different bore size for NG vs LP). I was combining a NG Gold B with a LP Silver C and wanted to take the sideburner from the Silver C and put it on the Gold B. Had to take apart the manifold and swap the regulators but otherwise it works fine (the Gold B didn't have the connector for the side burner). All other parts should be interchangeable.

For the hood, you can replace with SS nuts if you want but I don't know what size. Only fear is they might eventually get stuck on, which is why the "speed nuts" were used instead. Up to you I guess on how many more times you are going to be taking that hood apart on whether or not that matters for you.

As for tuning up the manifold... I got nothing for you there. Haven't really had any problems with those.

Hope that helps!

Hello again, thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. Ive got the sides off of the hood, and have found some rust, which has now been removed. I noticed the finish on the hood is much thicker and durable than the paint used on the rest of the grill. I assume this is a porcelain finish. My question is what to use to cover the bare metal where the rust used to be? Its not on the visible portion of the hood, its limited to the areas the are under where the hood sides overlap. Can the Rustoleum high temp paint be used there as well, or will there be adhesion issues?

Thanks,

Roy

If your spraying the outside if the hood just give it a try with HH paint. I wouldn't spray the inside of the hood for obvious chemical problems with the food being in there. The inside will gunk up with grease if it's exposed, if it's under the side panel lip it's a tough call. Maybe a little Crisco rubbed on it before assembly and the heat might cure it in to the metal.

Get some Rustoleum rust converter at the hardware store (or any type of product like that but DO NOT paint the exterior of the hood. The hood is done in porcelain. So just use the rust converter to treat the edges under the side panels. Do a couple coats. Allow to harden. Than put it all together. It'll last just fine. There is not that much heat in the area there.
