new q2200 sighted today.

saw a new q2200 today, changes have been made. one of the biggest ones is that the ci grate has a really heavy coating of porcelain.
also the instuctions say it now can use both styles of canisters but when I tried to fit them on it was a real hassle. not sure what is going on there.

ok, update. I went to another store(weber dealer) and looked again. the one I saw today looks just fine and the two different canisters should fit just fine.
the first one I saw must not have been put together properly. another thing I noticed today was that all the grates for the new q's are 2 piece. wish they had done this from the start.

George:

What do you mean by two different sized canisters? The long thin 14 oz vs the 16 oz coleman style? If this is the case was there a problem with the old Qs taking both?

Yep the old Q would not take the 16oz cylinder without modification. Only the long skinny one

Really? I never used anything but a 16.4 oz Coleman with my 120....I've probably run close to 15-20 of the Coleman ones thru it without a problem and never modified anything on the grill. Now I'm really curious...what is the perceived issue with using them??

I also just pulled the following from the Q120 instruction manual at the top of page 10:

You obviously did not put the loop support on it. You are most likely hanging the cylinder's weight off the valve. Not a good idea

Mine has no support loop and like I pointed out, the Q120 explicitly state the 16.4 oz and the 14.1 can be used in its instruction manual.

Digging further I did read on another forum that the very early Q's did have a support loop to limit its use to a 14.1 oz and this was supposedly done because Weber and Coleman were having a tiff at the time and this was Weber's way of sticking it to Coleman where it hurts. There was no technical reason for it.

then they must have changed it sometime back and no one mentioned it. it was an original problem. I just took the bracket off and made my own support out of some strapping. for sure remember to not transport while a canister is connected.

Did you buy the grill new or used? Many simply took the hoop off (not a good idea). I think Weber reinforced the bracket and the valve assembly to support the tank, but just hanging the bottle off the end puts a lot of stress on it

Bought it brand new the very first year the Q120s were made available with the temp gauge....bought it from Orchard Supply Hardware. Validated last night that the hardcopy instructions that came with it stated the use of 14.1 and 16.4 oz canisters as I posted above from the online instructions off the weber website. I also validated that in the parts list in the instructions makes no mention of this support loop....and no anywhere else in the instructions as well. I'm attaching a pic of the Q120 parts list to show what I mean:

I did find an old Weber Baby Q 100 parts list that does show it, so they clearly Weber removed the part when the 120s came out:

I guess you got the one made after they reinforced that part. I tried hanging a 16 oz one off my 220 and WAY too much deflection for me to be comfortable so I modified the OEM hanger and it works great since the skinny tanks are hard to find

ah ok. Yes, my bracket seems strong enough not to cause any deflection. too bad weber doesn't offer the updated bracket separately from the valve...seems as though they can only be purchased together.
