new one touch gold...first problem.

So i just picked it up from home depot. Started to set it up. Step one. Put the ash catcher on. This thing is so out of round. Doesn't touch the bottom of the grill. This actually ****es me off. I spend an extra 50 bucks on the ash catcher and it looks completely messed up. I searched on the web and saw that a few people here had the same problem and had to call weber for replacement. Should not have to do this. I'm very disappointed right off the bat. Thinking about just taking it back.

i can take some pictures. I just finished the legs. It was hard puting the pan in for the ash catching. I flipped it over and put the 2 grates in. The top grate slides from left to right too much. Shouldn't this be a good fit? Is there slop in your top grate? It almost seems like the bottom bowl is not round

Having an ash ring out of round isn't that uncommon. They get out of round pretty easy, but also get back into round just as easy. Take a tape measure and measure all around it to find the long & short sides. Squeeze on the long side (gently) and it'll torque back into shape. Once it's pretty close (not perfect) install it. With the 3 tabs of the ash catcher clicked into the leg sockets, mine have been good to go with ease of ash pan removal/installation. The ones I've just snapped into place without the TLC have been painful to operate.

Yes, having some play on the top grate is normal. Once you start using this thing, you'll see a build-up of smoke & gunk and the play will get smaller. Also, the grate won't spin as easy either. Let us know how it all pans out for ya.

So i'm thinking about a 1/4 of inch of slop is normal. I'm not sure or not if i'll go through the trouble of calling weber about the ash catcher.

The cooking grate on my new Performer has a little bit of side-to-side give, too. Not even close to the point where it'll fall off the little holders, though. I think a small amount of give is to be expected.

The cooking grate on my 221/2" One Touch Platinum has about a 1/4" play around all sides. I was a bit surprised by it but it has not caused any problems.
Congrats on your purchase!

Thanks. I think the ash catcher put me in a bad mood. Is the lid holder pointless on that thing? I tried to hang it a couple times but it was so difficult to get it right that i just ended up holding it or putting it down on the ground.

Also, damn that handle gets hot.

Yea that lid hook is a PITA to use if trying to hook it on the side of the bowl. Try to hook it on one of the handles, easier to catch IMO. Also see if you can find a Slide-Aside lid holder from Weber, I have one on mine and love it!
