New one to me.

I was done rehabbing my latest silver B and was putting it all back together and couldn't understand why it wasn't lighting even though I could smell the gas. I tried readjusting the gas catcher, changing the piezo and wires, changing the gas catcher. I lit it with a match and it lit but low flames. Not enough flames to light the other burners without a match. All three burners were low. I thought maybe I tripped the safety in the regulator, so I tried the troubleshooting steps. Same problem. I swapped tanks, same issue. I finally thought maybe the regulator was bad since all three burners were low. So, I put a new hose and regulator on the manifold. Same problem. So, even though it was the same issue with all three burners, I thought maybe the orifices were clogged. I took them out and soaked them in brake cleaner and then sprayed them with a compressor air hose. I visually checked them and they looked good. Put them back in and installed the manifold and still had low flames. I adjusted the air shutters, but that didn't make the flames any better, just caused more yellow flames. The low flames were nice and even, just LOW. So, stepping back, I thought, it had to be the manifold itself. So, I swapped in a different manifold and bang, it lit up fine. I don't know, but there must have something clogging up the whole manifold since it affected all the burners. But, I just figured it was a long shot, and I didn't know where else to look for the problem. I suppose there were probably insect nests and webs inside the manifold.

Yea sounds like something got inside and built a nest. Seems unlikely unless the regulator was disconnected from thw manifold for some time.

Do you plan to take it apart and investigate?

Yeah - I was just gonna say can you take the valves off and 'look inside'? If anything, you could blow some air thru it to see what comes out.
Hard to believe that anything could get past the valves from the burner side.... something getting in from the reg side?....?...?
Hard to believe that all three valves would 'plug'..... but maybe it sat long enough for the grease to 'slide or collect' in all.....?
I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it..... we all want to know too!

Yeah, I would unscrew all the valves and blow that out good. Check the valves themselves from both sides. I'll lay odds debris got in or maybe the manifold was open a long time or maybe that Chinese rubber had some flakes inside the hose that got in

I picked up a grill that didn't have a regulator hose screwed into the manifold which I thought was a little odd. Anyways, there ended up being a lot of dirt, sand, and whatever inside the manifold and it didn't work at all. Of course I couldn't get most of the valve screws out to clean everything the right way. I cleaned it out the best I could and put it back together. I still don't know if that manifold works as I just threw it on a shelf and moved on. The next time I have a grill apart I will try it, but I'm not holding out too much hope.

I just punted mine. It is hot and muggy here today and that didn't help, but it just made me so mad by the time I got the issue resolved, that I didn't care to deal with the old manifold any more. Besides, I seem to have misplaced my 1/4" compact impact driver and that was grating on my nerves as well.

Dan, yah, I can sell it as a "Green New Deal" manifold.

In all actuality though, it was in quite good condition for a 20 year old grill.
