New Info?

While it's most lily factual information it almost reads like a teaser press for the new products coming.

Basically we’ve known all this for some time and there have been zero new developments. Weber swung for the fences and missed the mark. That doesn’t mean the company is in real rough shape.

We know about the new products they’ve shown and have an idea what may be coming, although we don’t know final form factors, ie we have a feeling Summit line will be refreshed as it’s currently the oldest product (save for old reliable kettle, and kettle isn’t getting anything other than maybe some colors and that’s fine), we know as of this week Q is getting a refresh for Australia and eventually will make its way here, there’s talk of a Smokefire refresh or replacement which frankly would be a mistake; Smokefire isn’t bad and never has been, the software wasn’t ready when it launched and folks gave up when they probably shouldn’t have. The design is what makes it different and better than any other big name mass market pellet in the market, period. Other than those two, everything is new or recently refreshed.

It would be great that Weber continues to produce quality American made grills profitably.

The Weber name and history are too good to be relegated to the “ash heap of history” in my opinion.

I wish more people here would support Weber better. Most of the posts are about restoring/repairing/reselling grills. that may make people here money, but none for Weber.

I don't think that is what Chris had in mind when he started this site. Is it Chris?

If I started a grill company called "Smith", I certainly would want a site VSBB.com full of people extolling the quality of my products, spreading the news about how much better I was than Weber and the others, and occasionally buying my parts and accessories and new grills.

Lots of companies sponsor forums about their products and that's great. The really cool thing about this site is that it is largely independent from Weber.

I hear you, Joan, but this is a select crowd. Of all those on TVWB, there aren't many in the refurb business. And that doesn't speak about the thousands of owners and new buyers that don't even know about this site. And my sister is a happy owner who just doesn't do forums. There is lots of competition out there, but i see Weber as often as i see anything else. It'll never be total domination, but I expect the word-of-mouth is pretty strong.

I think this site drives a lot of Weber sales.

I participate here the most of forums I subscribe to and that’s due to the quality of the people and expert level discussions.

I don’t think Weber could have built this forum with its success level.

Tim, no offense the company was most likely going bankrupt if BDT did not step in. They were going to be out of cash in a matter of months without the loan from BDT to bridge them to the buyout. It was obvious if you read their earning report in fact if you search my posts from awhile ago I brought up their cash position before BDT stepped in and I am no genius but know my way around financial statements. BDT really had no choice in order to protect there investment. We all are pulling for Weber but its been a crappy business the last few years and the margins were never that great to begin with. Not been much better for Cook by the way. Cook is still public so you can get a glimse of what the current market is when it comes to charcoal, gas, griddles and pellets.

If you read this current transcript from a few months ago from Cook it kind of breaks down the market by fuel. Interesting their current griddle seems to be doing quite well and my quess is the Weber griddle at a lower price point probably doing well also but Weber is private so no way to really know.
