New HeaterMeter needing help from the pros

Built a Heatermeter 4.2 and for the most part it's working pretty good. Several questions. For Starters. I am at a loss when it come to setting the internet up for porting an ip. I was able to get into my router and get the ip for the Heatermeter, but when I go to set up the port forwarding I get lost. Here is my router Port Fowarding

Service Name ( not sure what goes here)
Service Type tcp/udp
External Starting Port 80
External Ending Port 80
Use the same port range for Internal port
Internal Starting Port 80
Internal Ending Port 80
Internal IP address 10.0.0.17

I set up and Dynamic DNS. etzler.hopto.org 172.9.18.86
Expires in 30 days

What's my next step? Thanks in advance.

What brand/model router do you have? That seems like a strange setup. Can you give us a screen shot of your router screen? (just be sure to censor the private bits).

Also, did you create a static address for the HM?

I would suggest a site like No-IP.com. It's free, and aside from having to confirm your address every once in a while,it's really reliable.

This stuff isn't my strong suit. Sorry if I am ignorant. How would I go about creating a static ip?

Static routes isn't where you want to be. You want to look for a Static DHCP section, but your router may not have that.

Anyways, the port forwarding looks ok. If you can't get to http://etzler.hopto.org/ from the outside world, then there's a good possibility your ISP may be blocking inbound on port 80.

Try making it External Starting / Ending port of 8000 and internal starting/ending port of 80

Then see if http://etzler.hopto.org:8000/ works.

Update: A quick google search based on your router model shows that this is the info you want to create a Static DHCP setting for the heatermeter. That will ensure your heatermeter is given the same IP every time it boots.
